Tuesday, September 22 at 6:30 p.m.; CWRT Program in the Wooster Library Conference Room. “Flames Beyond Gettysburg” by Scott L. Mingus, Sr..

Mingus is an award-winning Civil War author and lecturer from York, PA, whom we are honored to have in Wooster! This PowerPoint talk by Mingus will cover the command of Confederate Maj. Gen. Jubal A. Early, as it conquered Gettysburg after a series of skirmishes on June 26 (which is known by few). Then two days later his army occupied York, the largest Northern town to fall to the Confederates during the entire war. General Early ransomed York for money and supplies and surrounded the town with artillery and troops. Hastily organized state militia defended the river crossing at Wrightsville and then burned the worlds longest covered bridge to prevent Rebel passage into Lancaster County, from which Jubal Early had hoped to threaten Harrisburg. Gen. Early’s army came back into Gettysburg during the terrible battle on July 1,2, & 3.
