The Wayne County Historical Society of Ohio Board of Trustees met for their regular monthly meeting on March 28, 2017 and approved changes to sections, X. DE-ACCESSION PROCEDURE and XI. DISPOSAL, of the Society’s Collections Management Policy.

One of those changes allows them to publish the list of approved de-accessioned items (objects released and removed from the Societys permanent collection) by the Board of Trustees not only in the Society’s quarterly newsletter but also on Society controlled media outlets (the website or other online media platforms) along with the planned method of disposal. Another change to the Policy allows the Society to sell some de-accessioned items at approved sales outlets, like Uptown Downtown Antiques in downtown Wooster, Ohio, rather than being restricted to a traditional public auction as was required by the old Policy. Additionally, besides the traditional public auction disposal method, an online public auction method (Ebay or the like) is now a disposal option thanks to the updates to the Collections Management Policy of the Wayne County Historical Society of Ohio.
