A visitor to the lower level of our Kister Building will discover many unusual and varied exhibits.

Early taxidermy

Large displays of animals and birds, which were donated by the George Faber family, are located in the lower level of our Kister Building. These specimens were mounted by a local taxidermist, Joseph Housekeeper. The collection was given to the former “Wooster Museum” in 1909, and was considered, at the time, to be one of the finest collections in the area.

Joseph Housekeeper was also responsible for the Wayne County Historical Society’s Squirrel Orchestra, currently located in our General Store, which has been a favorite of children visitng the museum for many years.
