The Battle of Spotsylvania Court House, Virginia, 8 May 1864 – 21 May 1864 had the third highest number of casualties in our Civil War. Neither side won. The North would replace their lost soldiers, while the South could not. In this battle it became clear that the war had become one of attrition and not so much of maneuver.
