The Wayne County Historical Society is supported by a dedicated group of volunteers who are active in all aspects of society operations. Retirees, high school students, undergraduates, families, business and professional people, young adults, teachers and service organizations are among those who donate their time. Our mission, to preserve Wayne County’s heritage and share that heritage with its citizens, can only be accomplished with the help of volunteers.

Here are a few of the volunteer opportunities available:

Our docents give guided tours after completing a training process and learn how to conduct special interest events.

Members of the various acquisitions committees work with artifacts, displays, and research.

Building and Grounds volunteers help clean permanent exhibits, work on the grounds to repair and maintain historical society buildings and sometimes assist in the dismantling of buildings on other sites for rebuilding on our campus.

Volunteers are also needed for special events, acting as hosts, manning the information booth or assisting with children’s activities. Or, for those with an organizational bent, there is the Board of Trustees and an opportunity to help direct the future direction of the Wayne County Historical Society.
