Moved to the Society’s grounds in 1963 from its original site in Congress Township.
This structure is considered a log house, not a cabin, because it has a second-story loft and is therefore considered a two-story building. Most residents in the early nineteenth century in Wooster lived in log cabins which would not have had a second story loft. In this time period Wooster boasted a higher population than neighboring towns of Sugar Creek and Salt Creek. This would solidify Wooster’s population as the largest in the county.
The Log House was deconstructed and put in storage from 2008 until 2014. However, the Log House has now been rebuilt on the WCHS campus and re-opened to the public. It is furnished with pioneer-era items to tell the story of an early Wayne County settler’s life.
