The Wayne County Historical Society has suspended public programming and office hours until further notice in order to support state and local efforts to protect public health and contain the COVID-19 virus. The opening of the historical society’s 2020 exhibit, “Votes for Women! Celebrating the Centennial of Women’s Suffrage,” will be postponed until a later date, a parade scheduled for April 18 has been cancelled, and school tours are suspended until further notice. The Bob Milne concert on Sunday, March 15, part of the Voices from the Past series, has also been cancelled. Ticket holders who wish to obtain a refund, or to contribute the tickets’ cost to WCHS, should contact the historical society at host@waynehistoricalohio.org or 330-264-8856.
“We will continue to monitor the information and guidance being released by the Centers for Disease Control and the Ohio Department of Health,” said Robert Everett, president of the WCHS board, “and make a determination about when to reopen and resume our regular public programming and hours based on that information and the developing situation.”
The Wayne County Historical Society is dedicated to collecting, preserving, and interpreting the history of Wayne County. Founded in 1904, today it operates a campus with eight buildings, including a pioneer-era log house, a mid-19th century general store, and the Beall-Stibbs homestead, begun in 1816 and completed in the early 1820s by War of 1812 veteran General Reasin Beall.
