The Wayne County Civil War Roundtable will offer a free program on Tuesday, Sept. 20, at 6:30 p.m. at the Wooster branch of the Wayne County Public Library. Kelly D. Mezurek will present “Black Men in Blue: The Civil War, Ohioans, and the United States Colored Troops.” The presentation focuses on how black Ohioans responded to the Civil War, their experiences on the battlefield and the home front, and how white Ohioans responded to their service. Special attention is given to the 5th and 27th United States Colored Infantry, the two African American regiments credited to the state of Ohio.

Mezurek is currently working on an edited volume of letters sent between African American soldiers and sailors and their families during the Civil War.

As always, the Wayne County CWRT is grateful to its members, the Wayne County Public Library, R.W. Gasbarre & Associates, Ed and Penny Gasbarre, and John Spaziani for their sponsorship.
