The Wayne County Historical Society will dedicate its permanent collection exhibit halls in honor of the late Dave Broehl on Saturday, Sept. 24. The ceremony, from 3 to 5 p.m. on the historical society’s campus at 546 E. Bowman St. in Wooster, is free and open to the public. A plaque will be unveiled and visitors may tour the newly named David Broehl Exhibit Halls. Overflow parking will be available in the St. Mary’s Church parking lot.

Dave Broehl

For nearly three decades, Broehl gave unstintingly of his time, talents, and energy to sustain, improve, and promote the Wayne County Historical Society. He served as president twice, from 1994 to 1996 and again from 2012 to 2014, worked countless hours as a docent, and co-chaired with Greg Long “A Campaign into the Next Century,” which raised $1.5 million for a multitude of projects on the historical society’s campus.

Broehl was the driving force behind the development of an exhibit area running beneath the Kister building, carriage house, firehouse, general store, and schoolhouse where the historical society could display items in its permanent collection, 75 percent of which were in storage due to lack of exhibition space. Thanks to his tireless efforts, the permanent collection exhibit halls opened in September 2018. Broehl passed away in October 2020.
