Wooster resident Paul Davis will present a special program, “The Trolley the Came to Wooster” on Sunday, August 20, at 1 p.m. in the 1873 schoolhouse on the Historical Society’s campus. Admission is $5, but free for WCHS members and those 18 and under. Seating is limited.
From 1903 until 1931 an electric interurban railway provided Wayne County with convenient transportation from downtown Wooster northward to Creston, Cleveland, and other towns across Ohio. According to Davis, “This presentation explores that railway’s origins as well as the details of the route it followed, the challenges of getting it built, and why it was an important part of Wayne County’s transportation history.”
Davis is a member of the Wayne County Historical Society and has done extensive research on the interurban. He is a volunteer at the Northern Ohio Railway Museum near Chippewa Lake.
Our pop-up exhibit, “The Historical Roots of Sterling, Ohio” will be open following the program. Another exhibit, “From the Collection: Wayne County in the Armed Forces”, will also be open for viewing. Light refreshments will be provided.
The Sterling exhibit will remain on display until September 10, 2023. The military display will be on display through December 2023.
