The Wayne County Civil War Roundtable will offer a free program on Tuesday, April 19, at 6:30 p.m. at the Wooster branch of the Wayne County Public Library. Van Young will present “The Battle of Fort Sumter – First Shots of the Civil War.” Face masks are not required, but feel free to wear one if you wish.
On April 12, 1865, Confederate artillery opened fire on Fort Sumter in the harbor of Charleston, S.C., beginning the Civil War. The presentation will describe the events and decisions Lincoln had to make during the most desperate early days of his presidency.
Van Young, a Columbus resident, is active in two central Ohio Civil War organizations and currently serves as president of the Griswold History Study Group in Worthington. He has presented to several area history groups and senior centers on Civil War topics and other events in American history.
As always, the Wayne County Civil War Roundtable would like to thank its members, the Wayne County Public Library, R.W. Gasbarre & Associates Surveyors, Ed and Penny Gasbarre, and John Spaziani for their sponsorship.
