WOOSTER, Jan. 19 – The Voices from the Past concert series is back for its 30th season, with three performances scheduled at the Wayne County Historical Society in Wooster. Tickets for each concert are $15 and can be purchased at Murr Printing & Graphics, 201 E. Buckeye St., or by calling the historical society at 330-264-8856.

The series kicks off on Sunday, Feb. 5, at 2 p.m. with the heartfelt vocals, honest songwriting, and blazing instrumentals of Americana band Hey Mavis. The Akron-based quartet has released three albums and has appeared on NPR’s Mountain Stage and PBS’s Songs from the Center.

Acclaimed folk, rock, and country singer-songwriter Steve Free will perform on Sunday, March 19, at 2 p.m. The nine-time ASCAP award winner aims to write evocative songs that reflect life. “Folk singers aren’t out to be famous,” he told a reporter in 2019. “They just tell stories.”

Closing out the series will be Dennis Stroughmatt et L’Esprit Creole on Sunday, April 30, at 2 p.m. Stroughmatt, a member of the National Oldtime Fiddlers Hall of Fame, and his trio craft a medley of music, language, stories, and culture that combines Celtic, Canadian and Louisiana Cajun styles.

All concerts take place in the Schoolhouse on the grounds of the Wayne County Historical Society, 546 E. Bowman St. in Wooster. For more information, call 330-264-8856.
