To Host An Event

The Wayne County Historical Society (WCHS) invites community members to use the buildings and grounds for special events and meetings. Below are details on the available spaces.

Campus Open Houses

The WCHS is available for open houses during the day or night. Renting the Campus includes the use of four (4) areas: the Kister Building upper level, the Beall House, the Schoolhouse, and the General Store. Access to the Log Cabin, Ladies Store, and Kister Building lower level are not permitted during open houses. The fee for this space rental is $300 per day.

The use of additional areas, such as the WCHS Permanent Collection and additional buildings (such as the Firehouse), may be permitted by request. Proposals for additional space rentals must be presented to the WCHS Board of Trustees to begin the approval process. If the WCHS Board votes to approve the rental, both parties must negotiate a contract to secure arrangements for insurance, volunteers/event staffing, set-up arrangements, and/or additional event-specific details or concerns.

Schoolhouse Building

The Schoolhouse is available for large special events such as weddings, receptions, reunions, etc. It is available for a fee of $200 per day.

For meetings and/or group programs of up to 100 persons and up to four (4) hours, the Schoolhouse is available for $125.00.

Hot or cold food may be served in the Schoolhouse. The Schoolhouse will not remain open later than 10:00 p.m., unless WCHS Board approval is obtained.

Kister Building

The Kister Building Library is available for group meetings with a maximum of thirty (30) persons. The fee for use of this room, without access to displays or other buildings, is $100 for up to three (3) hours of use. Light hors d’oeuvres, cold beverages, and/or prior prepared hot beverages may be served in the Kister Building. Group meetings in the Kister Building are not permitted to stay beyond 10:00 p.m., unless WCHS Board Approval is obtained.

Educational Public Tours

Public tours are not associated with a school and are available for groups for $5 per person. If the tour group wishes to have a meeting after the tour, there is an additional $25 fee for the group. Such a meeting is capped at two (2) hours.
